About the Program and Position Summary
This position is responsible for conceptualizing, fundraising for, managing, and substantively completing multi-dimensional projects on Environmental Security, which require significant expertise and credibility on climate resilience, infrastructure, and natural resources. The program director will be responsible for implementing and completing existing projects within the program as well as developing and raising funds for new streams of work. The individual will lead expert and public discussion in relevant topic areas through writing and public and media appearances. The successful candidate should be a recognized leader in the field and will represents the Center with senior leaders in government, industry, the media, and across civil society communities around the world.
Responsibilities:
- Conceptualize and implement research/advocacy projects that advance knowledge, debate and policy-making in climate infrastructure, natural resources, and other compelling matters of environmental security;
- Set priorities for projects, communicate these priorities effectively to others on the team, and manage projects and staff efficiently;
- Identify potential funders, cultivate funding relationships, and fund new project concepts;
- Prepare substantive content for funding proposals and participate with the finance team in building project and program budgets;
- Build relationships with influential individuals and institutions in the programmatic field;
- Conceptualize, research, and publish analysis and findings through op-eds, reports, books, press releases, etc.;
- Develop monitoring and evaluation metrics for project progress and ensure timely and high-quality work product;
- Support Stimson programming by collaborating and working with other programs on joint projects, evaluation of proposal ideas, writings, and finding areas of intersection of work;
- Monitor project spending and funding;
- Manage program staff; and
- Support institutional activities as requested.
Supervisory Responsibility: relevant staff associated with the program, which could include Senior Fellows, Fellows, Research Analysts, Research Associates, and Research Assistants.

Qualifications – required:
Master’s Degree in related field and 10 years relevant experience or PhD in related field and 7 years of experience. Proven experience as a fundraiser and manager.
