Position Summary
The Director of Major Gifts and Community Outreach will lead fundraising efforts at Campaign Legal Center (CLC) to ensure the achievement of annual revenue goals and the expansion of CLC’s funding base. This role is responsible for the strategic development, execution, and management of high-level individual, family/community foundation donor relationships. The Director will work closely with the Vice President of Development and the Director of Development to build and maintain a sustainable and diverse funding portfolio, including individual major donors and foundation grants.
Key Responsibilities
Development Strategy and Execution
- Develop and steward a portfolio of high net worth individual and family/community foundation funders.
- Collaborate with the Vice President of Development and the Director of Development to create individual and foundation donor goals and strategies.
- Lead efforts to grow the donor base and new revenue opportunities by managing and cultivating the prospect pool.
- In conjunction with the VP Development, engage with the Board and Development Committee to increase their own giving, as well as expand CLC’s donor and prospect pool.
Donor Relationships and Cultivation
- Build and maintain strong relationships with individual donors and family/community foundation funders, with a focus on soliciting major and principal gifts.
- Coordinating with CLC program staff on foundation outreach and grant writing as needed.
- Coordinate stewardship efforts with staff, board members, and volunteers to enhance donor engagement and retention.
- In conjunction with the VP Development and Manager of Donor Relations and Events, oversee coordination and execution of donor events, both virtual and in-person, to strengthen relationships and showcase CLC’s work.
Management and Operations
- Oversee individual giving systems and processes related to the pipeline and data management.
- Ensure the effective and meaningful stewardship and acknowledgement processes for major gifts.
- Work closely with development staff, providing guidance and mentorship to support their professional growth, potentially supervising individual giving staff in the future.
- Develop annual fundraising budgets and forecasts in collaboration with the Vice President of Development and Director of Development.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher.
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive fundraising or similar experience, preferably within a mission-driven organization.
- Proven success in securing major gifts from individuals and foundations.
- Experience conducting face to face solicitations, including major gifts, and foundation relations.
- Familiarity with donor database software and best practices in donor stewardship.
- Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively across teams and with senior leadership.
- A deep commitment to CLC’s mission of advancing democracy through legal reform.
